The CERTUS System provides food producers with a superior alternative to third-party testing, delivering swab-to-result in as little as eight hours. Backed by a comprehensive series of tests and assay optimizations, the rapid performing CERTUS System will be on display at the International Association of Food Protection July 8-11, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah (booth #301) with demonstrations every 30 minutes.

Utilizing SERS nanoparticle technology, the CERTUS System features real-time detection which empowers food processors with the timely information they need to keep their products moving and protect their brand from a recall. The CERTUS System’s powerful combination of in-house capability coupled with real-time detection means producers have test results in-hand in less time than it takes for a third-party lab to receive samples by mail. By reducing dependence on postage, the CERTUS System eliminates delays and costs associated with mailing samples – including cold pack and hazardous material shipping fees. Small and mid-size producers now gain a significant edge with CERTUS. As part of its path to AOAC validation, the CERTUS System recently underwent an intensive battery of performance-based tests proving detection of Listeria species at 10(4) cfu during a standard work shift. Results also show that one cfu of Listeria-monocytogenes can be detected in as little as 18 hours from swab to result.  In addition, tests clearly demonstrate the ability to detect Listeria in produce wash samples known to have high bioburden. With a range of matrices that includes stainless steel, ceramic, plastic, and concrete sample sites, the CERTUS system provides 98% accuracy, which is equivalent to top competitors.

CERTUS System test methods and results will be on display at IAFP in an academic poster presented by Dr. John Bodner, CERTUS Director of Research & Development. The poster features key assay performance metrics including a full list of inclusivity and exclusivity results proving that all challenging strains of Listeria are accurately detected, and interfering bacteria are excluded from results.

CHICAGO – May 8, 2018 – CERTUS, innovators in food safety technologies, will hold its first official public debut of the CERTUS System at the 20th Annual Food Safety Summit, May 8-10, 2018, being held at the Donald Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. Summit attendees, especially food processors, are invited to visit the CERTUS booth (#735) for live demonstrations of the CERTUS System and meet with the company’s newly appointed Director of Sales, William Melnyczenko, who joined the Chicago-based company in April 2018.

CERTUS Begins Manufacturing of Novel In-House Pathogen Detection System with Toho Technology

Food safety innovators on track for Q2/2018 market availability for small and mid-sized processing plants

CHICAGO – February 13, 2018 – CERTUS, innovators in food safety technologies, has begun manufacturing of the CERTUS System Detection Unit, bringing small and mid-sized food processing plants one step closer to a fast, easy and cost-effective way to detect pathogens. Based on SERS nanoparticle technology made available through an exclusive license agreement with BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a leading global medical technology company, the CERTUS System is an entirely in-house system, enabling food producers to perform environmental monitoring without the need for outsourced testing. CERTUS™ to Bring In-House Salmonella  Testing to Food Processing Plants

Research and development of the CERTUS Environmental Salmonella assay begins, providing an in-house solution to detect one of the world’s leading causes of food-borne pathogen illness.

CHICAGO – December 20, 2017 – Today, CERTUS™, innovators in food safety technologies, announced the expansion of its rapid food pathogen detection menu with the initiation of research and development of an Environmental Salmonella assay. To address a pathogen which, according to the CDC causes more than one million food-borne illnesses in the United States annually, the new CERTUS Salmonella test will use the same proprietary Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) technology and instrument platform as the company’s CERTUS EL test for Listeria, which is due to launch in early 2018. End-use benefits will similarly include extremely simple workflow, on-site testing capabilities, real-time growth monitoring, immediate alerts upon detection and bio-containment for the safety of the food processor and consumer. As with the CERTUS Listeria assay, the Salmonella test will be, “All-in one, all in-house.”

Reagent research and development is being conducted in collaboration with CERTUS research partner, Solus Scientific, a UK-based food pathogen assay developer. Solus Scientific is the developer and manufacturer of their own Listeria, Salmonella and E. coli ELISA designed for large volume sample processing. Solus is also the assay development partner for the CERTUS EL assay used in the CERTUS System which is currently seeking AOAC validation.

CERTUS Begins Salmonella Test Development

 

With the CERTUS Environmental Listeria (CERTUS EL) test on its way into validation, CERTUS looks to expand its rapid food pathogen detection menu.  In 2018, CERTUS will expand its pipeline with the initiation of the development of an Environmental Salmonella assay.  In January of 2012, the CDC estimated that Salmonella was the cause of one million food-borne illnesses in the United States, with 19,000 hospitalizations and 380 deaths.   Globally, the WHO estimates that Salmonella is the leading cause food-borne pathogen death.  Therefore, CERTUS remains committed to developing tools to help food producers protect their consumers from these dangerous pathogens.

The CERTUS Environmental Salmonella assay will be based on the same proprietary Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) technology and instrument platform as the CERTUS EL test.  Therefore, the CERTUS Environmental Salmonella test will provide the same benefits to the user as the CERTUS EL test:  extremely simple workflow, on-site testing capabilities, real-time growth monitoring, immediate alerts upon detection and biocontainment for the safety of the user and the environment.
